Before COVID-19 Disrupted Schooling Worldwide, Riverside was a Trailblazer in Distance Education

Novum has been working with Riverside Christian College and their Distance Education team to design a dedicated Distance Education facility, housing their entire teaching staff, administrative staff, and printing and dispatch facilities.

Well before COVID-19 forced many schools to rethink their education delivery and consider online learning models, Riverside has been at the forefront of the Distance Education sector. In 1990 they were the first ever Non-Government school to introduce Distance Education in Queensland.

Since then, Riverside has grown its operations and from 2009 has been developing its own Australian-based curriculum (replacing international materials used by other Distance Education schools).

The new Distance Education facility will allow the Riverside team to continue developing their curriculum including producing their own printed materials and resources packs for distribution all around Australia.

The facility focuses on the collaborative culture amongst Riverside’s teaching and administrative staff. The large open plan office is clustered into “pods,” and provides several meeting, training, and break out areas.

Unique to a Distance Education facility, the building also includes several recording booths for pre-recorded and livestreamed virtual classes, connecting the teachers to their students located throughout Australia, and in some cases, around the world.

Riverside Christian College Distance Education is a P-12 home-based learning provider, based in Maryborough Queensland, and has a mission to provide excellence in education and to inspire Christian character.
