Learnings from our Students: Eliza Goodchild

This month we're celebrating our Architectural Students, and their recent experiences and learnings with us here at Novum

Today we're hearing from Eliza Goodchild about her experience working on our recent project at The Women's College at University of Queensland

I have had the pleasure of working with Novum for a year now. I am also a fourth-year Architecture student at QUT. Joining Novum has been my first experience working in an architectural firm and I have loved every minute of it!

I have been so fortunate to work on a range of projects in all their stages. Working on the refurbishment of The Women’s College Study Hub has been an experience where I have been able to learn about the phases of design and construction. It is a project that I hold dearly to my heart, as I resided at The Women’s College from 2017-2019.

Gaining the experience of working with clients who I have close existing ties with and working in a space I know very well is extremely rare, but I am so fortunate that I had the opportunity to do so.

The skills I gained through the design and construction phase included improvement in Revit, Enscape visualisation, broad communication skills, problem solving and the process of contract administration. Working in the industry while studying has allowed me to apply a real-world focus to my university assignments. I also believe that it is the real-world experience that makes all the knowledge we have learnt at university come together and click.
