NEW PROJECT: Toowoomba Grammar’s Heritage-Listed School House

Design work is progressing on Novum’s latest project with Toowoomba Grammar School: an internal refurbishment and partial reconfiguration of their “School House” building, an important historical building in Toowoomba originally completed in 1876 and listed by the National Trust of Queensland.

To cater to the school’s evolving needs, and ensure continued use of the building, the team has sought to refurbish the building in a way that allows the school’s administrative and leadership teams to work in a contemporary setting, while celebrating features of historical and architectural significance, and removing “intrusive” items which have been added over the years and adversely affect the place.

The design has carefully considered the often-contradictory requirements of contemporary workplaces, equitable access, and retention of features of significance, through an iterative and consultative process with the client, end-users, Heritage experts, Town Planners, and other specialist consultants.

Novum’s engagement by Toowoomba Grammar has included both architectural, interior design and furniture selection services.
