Toowoomba Grammar School’s new Agriculture and Industry Centre will complement their nearby Design, Technologies and Engineering Centre, also designed by Novum. These projects reflect the Toowoomba region’s farming- and industry-related career prospects and industries, preparing students for professional and trade-based futures in the local economy and beyond.
In the various Metalwork Workshops, students will engage in hands-on learning experiences, mastering the techniques of welding, fabrication, and machinery operation. The workshops are designed to accommodate a variety of projects, from small-scale prototypes to large-scale installations, empowering students to bring their creative visions to life.
Central to the ethos of the Agriculture and Industry Centre is the cultivation of practical skills essential to various industries, including construction. The Construction Skills Workshops will serve as hubs for metalwork, carpentry, and other construction- and industrial design-related projects. Through immersive learning experiences, students will gain proficiency in the fundamentals of design and construction, preparing them for futures in agriculture, construction, mining, trades, science, and design.
Embracing the principles of experiential learning, the outdoor agriculture plots will provide students with a living laboratory to apply theoretical concepts to real-world scenarios. From seed to harvest, students will actively participate in every stage of the agricultural process, cultivating crops, using the latest in farming equipment and technologies, and implementing sustainable land management practices.
Alongside the agriculture plots and workshops are state-of-the-art Agricultural Science Labs equipped with technology that allows students to explore the complexities of agriculture, technologies, and sustainable farming practices. Flexible spaces encourage collaborative experimentation and research, fostering a culture of inquiry and discovery.
A greenhouse will encourage students to explore the intricacies of horticulture, hydroponics, and urban farming, harnessing the power of technology to address contemporary challenges in food production.
